Medicaid Managed Care for People with HIV and AIDS
While most people with Medicaid coverage must currently access Medicaid benefits through managed care plans, Medicaid beneficiaries with HIV/AIDS have had the option to enroll in a managed care plan or stay in regular "fee-for-service" Medicaid
Beginning in September 2010, most HIV+ Medicaid recipients living in New York City will be required to join a Medicaid managed care plan. Individuals may request to stay in regular Medicaid if they qualify for another exemption (such as homelessness). This change is currently only for NYC residents.
